Chennai, Sept 29:
DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to enter the final phase of the by-election campaign in Dharapuram on October 2, with the party stepping up its campaign in both Dharapuram and Madurantakam constituencies ahead of polling on October 6.
Stalin will begin his campaign in Dharapuram and is scheduled to campaign in Madurantakam the following day. In Madurantakam, he will seek votes for DMK candidate I Paranthamen.
The DMK has already deployed its senior leaders in the two constituencies. Youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin is campaigning in both seats and is scheduled to conclude his campaign in Dharapuram on October 4.
DMK deputy general secretary and MP Kanimozhi is also campaigning for the party candidates. After completing her campaign in Dharapuram, she is expected to move to Madurantakam as part of the party’s final push.
The two constituencies have emerged as key battlegrounds in the by-elections, with major parties intensifying their campaigns during the final days. The campaign will officially conclude on October 4, while polling will be held on October 6. Counting of votes is scheduled for October 9.
The by-elections are witnessing a five-cornered contest. A total of 49 candidates remain in the fray in the two constituencies following the withdrawal of nominations.
With senior leaders from the DMK, TVK, AIADMK and other parties entering the campaign, the final week is expected to see an intensified contest, with the parties focusing on their respective candidates and local issues.
