Chennai, Sept 30:
The Greater Chennai Corporation has intensified mosquito control measures as the city recorded 1,775 confirmed dengue cases this month.
GCC Commissioner G S Sameeran inspected drone-based larvicide spraying along the Cooum near the Madras Medical College hostel. Larger drones are being used in waterways over 30 metres wide, where manual spraying is difficult.
The Corporation has deployed 3,703 field workers across 2,076 sectors to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sources. It has also mapped 25,035 vacant plots for special monitoring.
Sameeran said Chennai had recorded over 8,300 fever cases this month, with nearly 70% of dengue patients having recovered. Drone spraying will also be extended to the Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal.
