Lahore, Sept 30:
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is in line for a key position in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is planning changes to its cricketing structure following the team’s 0-3 Test series defeat in England.
A source close to the PCB said Akhtar met chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad last week and discussed the future of Pakistan cricket. Naqvi has also invited him to visit the National Cricket Academy and training camps.
Akhtar, who has previously been a vocal critic of the PCB, is understood to have presented his own ideas and conditions during the meeting. However, the exact position he could take up has not been officially announced.
The PCB is also considering foreign coaches and consultants following the departures of Shane McDermott and Ashley Noffke. The board is looking to appoint a permanent long-term head coach for the women’s team and make changes across the men’s, women’s, Shaheens and junior teams.
