Chennai, Sept 30:
SYSTRA has secured a consultancy contract from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to prepare a Detailed Project Report for improving multimodal integration at 41 stations on the Blue and Green lines.
The project will focus on improving connectivity between Metro stations and buses, suburban trains, taxis and other modes within a 500-metre radius. Proposed works include wider footways, shaded walkways, pedestrian bridges, improved station entrances, parking facilities and better-organised pick-up and drop-off zones.
Bus stops will also be relocated closer to Metro entrances to improve first- and last-mile connectivity. Central, Airport, Guindy, Thousand Lights, Thirumangalam and Alandur stations will be among the first locations to be prioritised.
SYSTRA has been associated with Chennai Metro since 2015, working as a detailed design consultant for Phase I extensions and continuing its involvement in Phase II since 2021.
