Chennai Metro tunnelling milestone at KMC

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has achieved a major tunnelling milestone in Phase-II Corridor-3 with the breakthrough of the tunnel boring machine ‘Kaveri’ at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Metro station.

Chennai, Oct 2:
Chennai Metro Rail Limited has achieved a major tunnelling milestone in Phase-II Corridor-3 with the breakthrough of the tunnel boring machine ‘Kaveri’ at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Metro station.
The 685-metre downline tunnel between Chetpet and KMC was completed by Larsen & Toubro. The tunnelling work began on September 6, 2025, and was completed in 252 days.
The breakthrough marks further progress in the underground section of Corridor-3, one of the major corridors being developed under Chennai Metro’s Phase-II project.
The project is aimed at expanding Chennai’s rapid transit network and improving connectivity between several important residential and commercial areas of the city.
