THOOTHUKUDI, Oct 5:
Revenue officials on Saturday night sealed a fireworks manufacturing unit at Masarpatti village near Ettayapuram after an inspection reportedly found fireworks stored in excess of permitted limits and discrepancies in the quantity of sulphur used at the facility.
The action was taken against TESCO Fireworks following repeated complaints alleging unauthorised storage of fireworks. Officials from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Industrial Safety and Health Department took part in the inspection.
During the inspection, the officials reportedly found fireworks stored in two containers and a building on the premises. They also noticed variations in the quantity of sulphur, according to an official source.
A revenue team headed by Ettayapuram Tahsildar Jeyalakshmi subsequently sealed two container lorries, an unauthorised building measuring 60×24 feet, the showroom and the sulphur room separately. The entire manufacturing unit was later locked and sealed.
TESCO Fireworks has been operating at the location since 2018, officials said.
