HC permits ECI to retrieve Perambur election EVMs

The Madras High Court has permitted the Election Commission of India to take back the electronic voting machines and symbol loading units used in the Perambur Assembly constituency during the recent election.

Chennai, Oct 6:
The Madras High Court has permitted the Election Commission of India to take back the electronic voting machines and symbol loading units used in the Perambur Assembly constituency during the recent election.
The court allowed the ECI’s application citing the need to service the equipment. The order permits the poll authority to retrieve the machines and related units used for the Perambur election.

The matter assumes significance as the election of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay from Perambur has been challenged through an election petition. The court’s order allows the ECI to proceed with servicing of the equipment while the related legal proceedings.
