Kyiv, Oct 6:
At least six people were killed and 59 injured after Russian airstrikes hit residential areas of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said.
Three bombs struck different parts of the city, damaging apartment buildings, warehouses and other structures. Emergency workers recovered three bodies from the rubble as residents were evacuated from damaged buildings. Three children were among those injured, while about 30 people were receiving treatment in hospitals, with three reported to be in serious condition.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, is located about 30 km from the Russian border and has faced repeated Russian attacks since the war began in February 2022. Monday’s strikes caused extensive damage to building facades, balconies and apartments.
Elsewhere, a Russian drone strike on an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia triggered a fire and injured three people. Another Russian airstrike killed one person in Sloviansk in the Donetsk region, as fighting continued along several fronts.
