Dubai, Oct 8:
India T20 captain Shreyas Iyer has made a stunning 18-place jump to a career-best seventh position in the latest ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after his sensational maiden century against the West Indies in the opening match of the series.
Iyer remained unbeaten on 102 off 43 deliveries, including 10 fours and six sixes, as India chased down the West Indies’ 172-run target in just 14.4 overs to register an eight-wicket victory in Lucknow. His explosive innings earned him a rating of 786 points and made him India’s third-highest ranked batter in the format.
The latest rankings underline India’s strength in T20 batting, with four Indian players now occupying places in the top 10. Ishan Kishan continues to lead the rankings, while Abhishek Sharma is second. Iyer is seventh and Tilak Varma is ranked 10th.
Iyer’s rise is particularly significant as it marks his first entry into the top 10 in T20I batting rankings. His century also made him only the third Indian captain to score a T20I century, after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford also gained from his performance in the opening match, moving up 10 places to 37th after scoring 56. India’s teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi climbed eight places to 46th, while Pakistan’s Hasan Nawaz made a major jump of 62 places to 48th following his performances at the Asian Games.
In the ODI rankings, India captain Shubman Gill retained the top position among batters, continuing his strong run in the 50-over format.
