Chennai, October 9:
Consumers in Tamil Nadu have been advised to register electricity-related complaints through WhatsApp after a technical problem in the BSNL telephone network disrupted direct calls to the Minnagam integrated electricity consumer service centre.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board’s 24-hour helpline, 94987 94987, is temporarily facing a technical issue affecting its telephone call service. The disruption has prevented consumers from reaching the centre by direct calls to report power cuts, voltage fluctuations and other electricity-related problems.
The electricity board has asked consumers to send their complaints through WhatsApp to the same number, 94987 94987, until normal telephone service is restored.
While registering a complaint, consumers can provide their electricity consumer number, the name of their locality and details of the problem. Photographs relevant to the complaint can also be shared through WhatsApp to help explain the issue.
The technical problem has been attributed to the BSNL telephone system. Teams from the electricity board and BSNL are working together to restore the direct call facility as soon as possible.
The board has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and requested consumers to cooperate until the service resumes. Alternative complaint-registration facilities are continuing to operate during the disruption.
Consumers experiencing power interruptions or other electricity-related issues can therefore use WhatsApp at 94987 94987 rather than repeatedly attempting to call the helpline. The direct telephone service is expected to resume after the connectivity problem is rectified.
