Chennai, Oct 10:
The Madras High Court has directed cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni to file his response by October 29 to applications filed by retired IPS officer G Sampath Kumar in connection with Dhoni’s Rs 100-crore defamation suit linked to the 2013 IPL betting controversy.
Sampath Kumar has sought video recording of Dhoni’s testimony, supervision by a judicial officer and access to unedited footage. He has also requested that the deposition be recorded in court premises or a government building rather than a hotel or private bungalow.
Justice Hemant Chandanagoudar adjourned the matter to October 29, stating that the court could not immediately decide the venue. Dhoni filed the suit in 2014 against media organisations, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary and Sampath Kumar over alleged statements linking him to betting and match-fixing.
