Chennai, Oct 10:
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has announced plans to introduce feeder bus services along the Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro corridor to improve last-mile connectivity for commuters in Chennai.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the metro rail service between Poonamallee and Vadapalani on October 11, paving the way for the long-awaited launch of services on the corridor.
According to a post shared by the MTC on its X account, feeder bus connectivity will be strengthened along the Poonamallee Bypass–Porur Junction–Vadapalani Metro corridor, which forms part of Chennai Metro Rail Phase II. The initiative will be implemented in coordination with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
The feeder services are expected to help commuters from surrounding residential areas access metro stations more conveniently, improving connectivity between localities and the new metro corridor.
The Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro service had been delayed by approximately seven months despite the completion of the required works and receipt of the necessary approvals. The introduction of feeder buses is expected to provide an additional transport option for commuters when metro operations begin.
