Chennai, Oct 12:

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite approval for Chennai Metro Rail Phase-3 and reconsider metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai.
Speaking at a function attended by Modi in Chennai, Vijay sought early clearance for proposed Phase-3 corridors, including Airport-Kilambakkam, Poonamallee-Sunguvarchatram and Koyambedu-Pattabiram. He also pressed for an interstate metro link between Hosur and Bommasandra in Karnataka.
Vijay called for high-speed rail corridors connecting Chennai with Kanyakumari and Coimbatore, besides seeking priority approval for key highway projects across Tamil Nadu. He urged the Centre to declare the Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project a national project and grant presidential assent to the proposal to make Tamil the principal language of proceedings in the Madras High Court.
The Chief Minister also sought the immediate, unconditional release of the pending Rs 5,110 crore Central share under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Reiterating that strong states make a strong India, he said Tamil Nadu aimed to become a $1.5-trillion economy by 2036, with development benefits reaching every district.
