New Delhi, Oct 13:
The Supreme Court registry has flagged 14 procedural defects in a petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and 10 other INDIA bloc leaders challenging alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The petition has not yet been cleared for listing before the court.
The objections include missing or unsigned authorisations for lawyers, incomplete supporting documents and a shortfall of â‚č220 in court fees. The registry has also sought clarification on the inclusion of individual Election Commissioners as respondents in a writ petition filed under Article 32 of the Constitution.
The registry has asked the petitioners to submit a clear and legible copy of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s identity card. It has also flagged missing or unsigned vakalatnamas, which authorise lawyers to represent clients in court, for nine other petitioners.
The petitioners have also been asked to provide legible copies of supporting records, including digital copies of the Election Commission’s June 24, 2025, decision to initiate the SIR exercise and documents relating to voter deletions.
