Chennai, Oct 14:
The DMK leadership has directed party functionaries across Tamil Nadu to strictly follow the recommendations of the committee overseeing the party’s organisational restructuring, following complaints from cadres that the exercise was being carried out arbitrarily in several areas.
In a statement issued by the party headquarters, the leadership said the party executive committee had already passed a resolution to implement the restructuring committee’s recommendations. The exercise aims to ensure an equitable division of party units, including local parts, cities, unions and districts across the State.
However, the headquarters had received complaints that some functionaries were carrying out the exercise without adhering to the prescribed guidelines, the statement said.
The party warned that any restructuring undertaken in violation of the committee’s recommendations would not be accepted during the headquarters’ verification process.
Explaining the criteria, the leadership said a union with 30,000 votes should be divided into more units. In Chennai, a ward with 10,000 votes should similarly be split into multiple units to ensure a more balanced organisational structure.
DMK president MK Stalin has set October 20 as the deadline for completing the restructuring exercise. He has directed district secretaries to expedite the process and ensure that the work is completed without further delay.
The latest directive follows complaints from party cadres across Tamil Nadu about the manner in which the organisational changes are being implemented.
