Chennai, Oct 21:
Private equity and venture capital investments in India are expected to match or exceed the $39 billion recorded last year, with infrastructure, domestic manufacturing and technology-related businesses attracting growing interest from investors, according to industry estimates.
Data from research firm Venture Intelligence showed that India recorded $39 billion in private equity and venture capital investments across 1,434 deals in 2025. Between January and September 2026, investments had reached $32.7 billion through 1,076 deals. September alone accounted for $6 billion, marking a strong month for investment activity. The figures exclude investments in the real estate sector. The latest numbers indicate that investor appetite has strengthened despite geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties and volatility in global financial markets.
Arun Natarajan, founder of Venture Intelligence, said the strong investment performance during the July-September quarter suggested that the full-year total could match or exceed the previous year’s level. After peaking at $64.4 billion in 2021, investments fell to $48.9 billion in 2022 and declined further to $33.8 billion in 2023 and $33.5 billion in 2024 before recovering in 2025. Industry experts said foreign investors were increasingly focusing on businesses with tangible assets, predictable cash flows and long-term growth prospects. Infrastructure projects involving renewable energy, telecommunications towers, data centres and toll roads have emerged as significant investment destinations. The expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure is also creating demand for data centres and power-related investments. However, experts cautioned that the final investment tally would depend on economic growth, company valuations, earnings prospects and the stability of the investment environment.
