Kyiv, Oct 21:
Russian missile and drone attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine killed at least four people and wounded 27 others over the past day, officials said on Tuesday, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy travelled to Norway to seek continued military and diplomatic support from Western allies.
The Kyiv region bore the brunt of the latest attacks. Three people were killed and six injured in the Obukhiv district, where warehouses were damaged. In the Bucha district, a woman was killed and 21 people were injured, including eight children. Hundreds of buildings were also damaged, according to regional police. Russian attacks on energy facilities in the southern Odesa region caused power cuts in several areas, although no casualties were reported there. Moscow said its forces had targeted logistics centres and port infrastructure, including facilities in the port of Reni.
Zelenskyy was scheduled to meet Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr StĆøre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Oslo. US envoy Steve Witkoff was also expected to participate, while Donald Trumpās son-in-law Jared Kushner was due to join by videoconference. Kyiv is increasingly concerned about delays in American military assistance, particularly supplies of Patriot air defence interceptors needed to counter Russian ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy also sought assurances that Washington would continue sharing intelligence with Ukraine. The latest attacks have intensified concerns over the country’s ability to protect civilians and critical infrastructure as the war approaches its fifth year.
