Tiruchy, Oct. 24:
DMK leader and Karur district secretary V Senthilbalaji has said that reorganising the party’s organisational structure in Karur district would be crucial to strengthening its electoral prospects in upcoming bypolls and local body elections.
Addressing the party’s district executive committee meeting on Friday, chaired by district president Rajendran, Senthilbalaji said Karur, which has four Assembly constituencies, had been divided into two organisational districts, each headed by a district secretary.
He said the restructuring was being undertaken based on the number of voters and the need to improve the party’s organisational reach. The move is intended to make election-related work more efficient and ensure closer coordination between party functionaries and voters.
Senthilbalaji also emphasised the need to create additional organisational units at the union and branch levels. The party plans to establish new unions, zones and branches, with designated representatives responsible for coordinating political activities and maintaining direct contact with voters.
He said booth-level agents would play an important role in strengthening the party’s presence in individual localities. A more extensive organisational network, he indicated, would help the party respond to local concerns, mobilise supporters and prepare more effectively for elections.
The proposal for the revised organisational structure has been sent to the DMK leadership for approval. Once it receives clearance, office-bearers will be appointed and preparations will begin for the upcoming bypoll in the Karur Assembly constituency and local body elections.
MLAs R Elango of Aravakurichi and Suriyanur A Chandran of Kulithalai were among those who attended the meeting.
The proposed restructuring comes as political parties prepare to strengthen their grassroots networks ahead of the next round of electoral contests. For the DMK, the exercise is aimed at improving coordination, increasing booth-level engagement and ensuring that the party’s organisational machinery is prepared for the challenges ahead.
