Chennai, Oct 27:
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has condemned the arrest of former School Education Minister and senior DMK leader Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in an alleged Rs 100-crore private school fraud case, accusing the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government of political vendetta.
In a post on X, Udhayanidhi alleged that the arrest was intended to divert public attention from the government’s shortcomings. He accused the ruling dispensation of attempting to deflect criticism over law and order, rising prices and alleged misconduct by TVK members.
Using strong language against the government, Udhayanidhi described it as a “circus government” and referred to Chief Minister Vijay as a “dummy Chief Minister”. He alleged that the action against Anbil Mahesh was politically motivated and sought to silence the Opposition rather than address public concerns.
Udhayanidhi expressed solidarity with Anbil Mahesh and said the former minister would face the allegations through legal means. He asserted that the DMK and its cadres would not be intimidated by criminal cases or arrests.
Anbil Mahesh was arrested after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Madras High Court in connection with the alleged private school fraud case. The allegations are subject to investigation and legal proceedings. The DMK has characterised the arrest as politically motivated, while the case will be dealt with through the relevant legal process.
