NEW DELHI:
The Registrar General of India has directed States and Union Territories not to release provisional Census 2027 data to the media, reiterating that census information must remain confidential under the Census Act, 1948.
The upcoming census is being conducted digitally, with the exercise divided into two phases: house listing and housing census, followed by population enumeration. The Centre has emphasised the confidentiality of the collected information as preparations continue for the nationwide exercise.
