New Delhi, Nov 6:

India is set to draw over $220 billion in renewable energy investments by 2030 to achieve its national target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil power generation capacity, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced on Thursday.

Addressing the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, Joshi highlighted India’s rapid generation ramp-up, stating: “To achieve first 100 GW, it took 7 decades, another 100 GW was achieved in 7 years and the next 100 GW was added in 2 years.” The country’s non-fossil installed capacity currently stands at 310 GW, requiring an additional 190 GW to hit the 2030 milestone.

Speaking at the event, MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said the ministry is actively drafting dedicated recycling regulations for solar module waste to mandate circular manufacturing standards. Sarangi noted that while wind turbine metals have high recovery rates, Suzlon and the Aditya Birla Group have entered into an MoU to develop fully recyclable turbine blades using advanced recyclable epoxy, establishing a technical baseline for wider industry adoption.
