Chennai, Nov 7:

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday dissolved the high-level committee on Centre-State relations constituted during the previous DMK regime, transferring its entire scope and jurisdiction to the newly restructured Tamil Nadu State Law Commission.

The three-member panel had been formed in April 2025 under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court Justice Kurian Joseph, alongside former IAS officer K. Ashok Vardhan Shetty and former State Planning Commission Vice Chairman M. Naganathan, to review constitutional provisions and recommend measures to strengthen federalism and state autonomy. The committee submitted the first volume of its report on February 16, 2026.

According to a Government Order dated November 6, 2026, the high-level committee operated as a non-statutory body.

Following a comprehensive review, the state government decided to discontinue its services with immediate effect.

The mandate to review Centre-State and inter-state relations, assess existing legislation, and suggest reforms to enhance the state’s legal and institutional framework has been formally assigned to the restructured State Law Commission.
