Chennai: Remembering Oral Hygiene Day, CMRL in association with Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, conducted an oral hygiene screening and awareness camp on 1 August at CMRL Admin Building and also in Metro trains.

A team of 25 doctors, headed by director of PG studies at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Dr Jaideep Mahendra, conducted the camp at CMRL Admin Building at Koyambedu for the CMRL staff from 9 am to 1 pm.

On the same day, the doctors will also be travelling on Metro trains from 8 am to 10.30 am to educate passengers about the significance of oral hygiene.

Free samples of products needed to maintain oral hygiene will be distributed for all staff and public attending the screening camp on the Metro trains.

Every year, 1 August is celebrated as Oral Hygiene Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian Society of Periodontics and the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology, Dr G B Shankwalkar.

The primary objective of the day is to spread the message of oral hygiene and to curb the worrisome trend of neglect, which is one of the main causes for dental diseases.
