LIC’s Pay Direct makes payment easy

Chennai: “LIC greatly influenced the concept to save money among the mindset of Indians ever since it was started 62 years ago,” said LIC zonal manager R Thamodharan during the corporation’s 62nd anniversary celebrations held here in Chennai.

“‘We have also consistently contributed in every possible way for India’s growth especially in its infrastructural development,” he said.

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) completed 62 years on 1 September. According to a press release, LIC started with a capital of Rs 5 crore back in 1956.

Today it has assets over Rs 28.45 lakh crore with Life Fund totalling Rs 25,84,485 crore. It started with 168 offices in 1956 and today it has over 4,826 offices and has 1.12 lakh employees, 11.49 lakh agents, 29.12 crore policies in force.

Thamodharan emphasised about LIC’s commitment to serve customers. He then spoke about a recently launched app. “We have launched ‘My LIC’ app for our customers benefit,” he said.

“They can use it 24/7 and it is available for both android and iOS phones. Customers can use the app to access all our schemes and services.”

One of the feature the app is said to have is “LIC Pay Direct” which enables premium payment, loan and interest repayment without registration.

When asked about claims filed by customers who were affected by the Kerala Floods, Thamodharan said, “LIC South Zone has received claims from 12 victims to the tune of 19 lakhs. They were all settled immediately.”

He added that LIC has implemented several relaxation for the flood affected customers to make it easier for them to receive their claims. “We are expecting more claims from customers and we are ready to help them,” said Thamodharan.

The press release also stated that in 2017-2018, LIC settled 266.08 lakhs claims amounting to Rs 1,98,119.83 crores and the release added that in the current financial year, LIC South Zone has settled total claims worth Rs 4,419 crores.
