Move over VJs. It is time for popular film stars to host reality shows in various Tail satellite channels.

Close on the heels of Kamal Haasan hosting Bigg Boss, now comes big strs like Vishal, Prasanna and Varalaxmi to television.

Remember in the past Sarathkumar (Kotteswaran) Prakashraj, Suriya and Arvind Swami (Neengalum Vellalm Oru Kodi), Thanga Vettai (Ramya Krishnan), Jackpot (Khushbu and Simran) appeared in Tamil TV channels to host shows.

Vishal, who is the president of Tamil Film Producers Council and general secretary of Nadigar Sangam anchoring the show ‘Naam Oruvar’ in Sun TV has let many raise their eye-brows in surprise. It is a show aimed at helping those below poverty line.

Every week, one family reeling under poverty would be chosen and given some tasks. The aim of the show is to empower them financially.

Actor Prasanna is hosting a show called ‘Soppana Sundari’ in Sun Life. To be aired once a week, the show provides a platform for aspiring models. Remember Prasanna hosted Sarkar audio launch for Sun TV recently. Similarly Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is the moderator for a talk show titled ‘Unnai Arindhal’ in Jaya TV. It discusses problems faced in society and tries to arrive at a conclusion.

Sources say that talks are on with actresses like Tammannah and Hansika to appear in small screen.

Says Ganapathy, an industry watcher,”The gap between cinema and TV is narrow these days. These shows take an actor/actress to the drawing rooms of people. They remain in their memory. It is beneficial when their films hit the screens. Also hosting the show help them make some quick money.”
