CMA Narayanaswamy Ramachandran

Chennai: Many of you would be knowing through newspapers about the recent incident at Madipakkam where a mentally-disturbed ITI passout, rescued by Madipakkam police, was handed over to his parents.

Meet Moovarsampet resident CMA Narayanaswamy Ramachandran, who assisted the police in getting the identity of the victim.

Narayanaswamy, the founder and chief evangelist of Askus Global Foundation, has been actively assisting police through his organisation by roping in like-minded people from all fields.

In an interview to ‘News Today,’ he revealed how things get going.

Excerpts:

Q: LET’S KNOW ABOUT YOURSELF.

A: In addition to the chief evangelist of Askus Global Foundation, I am also a freelance financial and educational consultant. I was born and brought up in Chennai. My father Ramachandran Chinnasamy (72) is a retired PWD electrician hailing from Thanjavur while my mother K V Geetha (64) hails from Palakkad. After completing my schooling in Sir M Ct Muthiah Chettiar Boys’ School, Purasawalkam, I pursued B.Com and Chartered Management Accountant (CMA) course at DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam. Following this, I worked as a internal auditor in many firms both in India and abroad including ITC, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Sterlite Copper, Thoothukudi, and Olam International before landing in my own organisation.

Q: WHAT INTERESTED YOU TO START THIS ORGANISATION?

A: During the course of my life, I had been a victim of many online frauds especially from social networking and matrimonial sites. At one point of time, I had also lost a lot of money trusting these platforms for my marriage. So, to prevent people from falling into the trap set by fraudsters online and to create awareness about education and technology, I started Askus Global Foundation. It’s a forum where people from all walks of life and from all fields discuss and enlighten others about what they are good at. The core aim of my organisation is to give tip off to police if any fraud of any kind is detected by us.

Q: WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE MENTALLY-DISTURBED BOY CASE?

A: When Dipendra Bhuyan was brought to Madipakkam Police Station, he wasn’t even wearing a shirt, had bruises on his body and we couldn’t trace any of his details except his name. With efforts proving futile, police left him astray by that night. Worried over this, I detected his Facebook account and published a post tagging all of his friends. Within minutes, I received calls from almost 30 people. Luckily two of his childhood neighbours were in Chennai and they reached the station. But to our disappointment, the boy has already escaped. After intense search, we spotted him in a dilapidated house. Unable to convince the boy, we postponed the rescue to next day. But he escaped again that night. Finally, Inspector Sekar involved himself and nabbed him at Pallavaram fish market getting a tip off. While he has been reunited with his family, the reason why he became mentally-disturbed remains to be a mystery. I am in constant touch with his family to nab the culprits in Kerala who stole his certificates.

Q: HOW HAS BEEN YOUR ASSOCIATION WITH POLICE SO FAR?

A: It has been nothing short of exciting. I am constantly in touch with local police as well as the cyber crime ones. They are very cooperative and take up our complaints war-footing. Every case is like an adventure and gives me more experience about how frauds operate. In fact, I am planning to marry an woman sub inspector soon. As of now, I face only one problem with the police. They are yet to enforce the Former City Police Commissioner Sebastian George’s order to register cases on complaints from petitioners irrespective of jurisdiction. While police do file cases within Tamilnadu, they think twice when the issue is out of the State. Finally, police can work effectively if we understand their own problems stepping into their shoes.

Q: WHAT’S NEXT FOR ASKUS GLOBAL FOUNDATION?

A: With the blessings of my management role model Peter Drucker, I am planning to open up many spheres of service through my foundation. I am planning to bring in artificial intelligence, machine learning for the police. Right now, my goal is to offer English and Hindi training to local police in the neighbourhood. I take this opportunity to thank Chennai Commissioner of Police, A K Viswanathan, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand, Kochi Commissioner of Police, M P Dinesh, Bengaluru West Joint Commissioner, Madipakkam Police team under ACP, Grievance cell at CP Office Chennai, Tamilnadu CM Cell, and some of the very renowned / kindhearted police.

Narayanaswamy Ramachandran can be contacted at 9790774226. He resides at 3/225, Subramanian Nagar, 2nd Street, Moovarsampet, Chennai.
