HMD had kept tech-savvy millennials glued to the much-expected launch of Nokia 9 PureView flagship smartphone. It seems that the firm was working on a new Nokia phone in the backdrop.

Images have surfaced online that reveal a new Nokia smartphone that interestingly does not come with a notch of any kind.

One can rest assured that the leaked images are not that of the Nokia 9 PureView, because the images are of a phone with triple rear cameras rather than a penta-camera set-up.

The leaked images were spotted on micro-blogging site Weibo, and the authenticity of it cannot be confirmed just yet.

Going by the images, this new Nokia phone will offer a triple rear camera system that is vertically placed on the centre.

The Nokia branding can be seen as well. There is no sign of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, that suggests that HMD is going with an in-display fingerprint sensor. This year, HMD has released a few phones with dual cameras, but we are yet to see a triple camera phone from the company.

What’s more interesting is the display of this new Nokia smartphone that has no notch on the top. There is also no clear indication of a front-facing camera either.

The side and top bezels are slim, while the chin bezel is fairly thick and houses the Nokia logo. It would be surprising if HMD launches a Nokia phone without a front-facing camera in the modern selfie-age.

It’s possible that the front camera is in the chin bezel, but the image shows no sign of that either. We can think of reasons for that. Nokia might have gone the Vivo way, with a pop-up selfie camera like the Vivo Nex or a slider mechanism like the Mi Mix 3.

Some tipsters claim that this Nokia phone will run a flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The Nokia 9 PureView, on the other hand, is being tipped for launch in February with five rear cameras and a Snapdragon 855 chipset.

IN BRIEF

* Images of new Nokia phone with triple rear cameras leaked

* Display has no notch and no signs of a front camera
