Chennai: A petition was filed on behalf of Sathya Jyothi Films in the Madras High Court today seeking to vacate the ban on the release of Ajith starrer Viswasam in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode.
Justice Sundar said hearing on the petition would take place in the afternoon. Viswasam, produced by Sathya Jyothi Films and directed by Siva, will hit the screens tomorrow.
The distribution rights for Coimbatore, Salem and Erode were sold to Sai Baba Films.
Since the latter had to settle an outstanding of Rs 77 lakh to a cinema financier Umapathy, a case was filed by Umapathy against Sai Baba Films. He also managed to get an order not to allow the release of Viswasam in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode.
Meanwhile, the counsel for Sai Baba Films filed an appeal with Madras High Court promising to pay Rs 35 lakh later today and settle the remaining amount within four weeks. It sought the court to allow the release of Viswasam. The case would be heard by Justice Sundar later today.
