Bengaluru: Amid the current political turmoil in Karnataka, the Congress suspended its MLA J N Ganesh, who is facing an attempt to murder charge after he hit and injured his party colleague Anand Singh during an alleged brawl at Eagleton Resorts on Saturday.

A case was filed based on a complaint by Anand Singh, who has been hospitalised for an injury he suffered in the alleged brawl at the resort where the Karnataka Congress MLAs were being huddled amid BJP’s alleged poaching bid.

In his FIR, Anand that Ganesh was upset with him for not helping him financially during the May assembly elections. Ganesh had blamed that Singh’s nephew Sandeep had threatened him that he would finish him off politically. After this, Ganesh reportedly hit him with a stick and a pot. Ganesh had also rammed Singh against the wall kicked him in the stomach and face. He had also asked for a pistol to kill him, Singh had said in his complaint.

Following this, the Congress set up an inquiry committee headed by deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and suspended Ganesh from the party. A statement issued by the party said a preliminary inquiry has been conducted.

Various versions of the incident were reported by the Congress leaders. D K Shivakumar had denied Singh had been assaulted and claimed all the MLAs were united. Former MP Madhu Goud Yakshi said the scuffle was related to some business issue and was not politically motivated.

However, a medical report of the hospital revealed he had sustained injury to head, face and left side chest pain, there were complaints of headache and left side chest pain. The report also cited black eye, nasal blood clot, and tenderness over left lower chest.

The suspended MLA Ganesh, meanwhile, claimed that he too was injured in the scuffle and that there was no bottle attack as was reported in the media. “I did not hit him, he fell…,he fell automatically,” he said.
