Kochi: Speaking at a booth-level party workers meeting in Kerala, Congress president, Rahul Gandhi stated that if the Congress comes to power after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Women’s Bill would be passed in the Parliament on a priority.

He further said that his party wanted to see women in position of leadership.

“For the last five years, he (Modi) has provided a maximum income guarantee to 15 of his friends. We have decided that if Narendra Modi can give maximum income guarantee to 15 rich people, we will give minimum income guarantee to every single citizen,”

Rahul’s statement comes a day after he announced that Congress would ensure minimum income guarantee for the poor if the Congress was voted to power at the Centre. Claiming that no country in the world has ever committed minimum income guarantee to their citizens, he promised that the Congress government will give every single poor Indian direct money in his account as a guarantee.

Slamming Modi over the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Rahul said it was fundamentally flawed and that nobody understood it. If Congress was voted to power, it will restructure the GST, he said, terming it as ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’. He accused the prime minister of destroying the backbone of India‘s economy.

He alleged that Modi government had done nothing for the farmers and assured that his government would ensure their welfare. “We have waived farm loans in the three states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – where we won elections. We have committed that in 2019, we will have a government that will make up for all the crimes that Narendra Modi has done against farmers in five years,” he stated.

Speaking about the sensitive Sabarimala temple issue, Rahul commented that the party respects women and at the same time respects the traditions of Kerala. He alleged that the CPI(M) and BJP are working on dividing the people of Kerala and said the real issue of jobs and protection of farmers was not given attention.

The Congress president further stated that people of Kerala are helping guide the people of India. He asked the people of Kerala not to think less of themselves.

The party has launched a ‘shakti’ programme in which all workers could directly talk to the leadership he said, adding, “Want every single Congress worker to feel ‘Ente booth, ente abhimaan, ente party'”
