Chennai: The city police have formed three special teams to investigate the robbery of Rs 10 lakh from an ATM kiosk near Porur by armed men.
One of the police teams has found the vehicle number of a two-wheeler used by the gang to carry out the robbery. ‘Based on this this and other few vital clues, the search hunt is going on,’ sources said.
Last night around 8.30, two employees – Devaraj (35) and Murali (30) – of a private cash management service were refilling cash at Canara Bank ATM. They were not accompanied by any security guard and did not close the shutter of the ATM.
Police said, the duo carried Rs 14 lakh and had already deposited Rs four lakh in the machine, when two men on a two-wheeler arrived at the spot wearing helmet and gloves, with their faces masked.
The pillion rider entered the ATM and brandished a knife. He attacked Devaraj and fled with Rs 10 lakh. Preliminary investigation revealed that the two robbers were following the agents since afternoon.
