Urmila, a resident of Kodambakkam, can add another feather to her cap. A techie, who is also a yoga therapist, has now ventured into social activism, focusing on road safety.
Having authored a book on ‘Tamilnadu License Drivers’ Training Guide’, she has been involved in many traffic-related campaigns and workshops.
Speaking about this, she says, “Last June, the guide book was launched at Salem, along with District Collector Rohini. During the event, many government officials including road transport officers took part. Following this, a separate meeting was held in the office of the Commissioner of Police.”
It may be noted that she was also a part of a delegation which visited Australia to learn the country’s traffic safety infrastructure.
On this, she states, “It was a one-week trip and I had to meet Australian government officials and the Melbourne police department. We learnt about the strategies employed to make their roads safer.”
Calling Australia and New Zealand as two nations with good road safety, she says. “People there are aware of the rules. They have hi-tech infrastructure.”
Having gained a plethora of knowledge during her trip, Urmila today regularly works with government officials and offers her expertise.
