Union min alleges social media abuse, files police complaint


Thiruvananthapuram: Alphons Kannanthanam, Union Minister of state for tourism, found himself in the midst of a controversy after pictures of him, purportedly a selfie, was posted on his official Facebook page.

Yesterday, he filed a police complaint saying he did not take selfie and it was a photo taken by someone else and sent to his office, which his media secretary had posted.

Writing a complaint to state police chief, Loknath Behera, he said it was unethical and illegal to unleash false campaign against him in connection with his visit to the house of V V Vasanth Kumar, the martyr CRPF jawan from the state, to pay last respects. He urged the police to take stringent action against those responsible

Kannanthanam had faced severe criticism on social media. Many netizens alleged that it was a selfie and accused him of using the tragic incident as an opportunity for self-promotion.
