Chennai: At a time when policemen are accused of corruption, a head constable from the city police department truly leads by example.
In a show of gratitude, Venkatesh Rao has donated two months of his salary to the school he studied in.
A law and order head constable with Kotturpuram police station has donated his salary to Chennai Middle School, Ayyapakkam.
He said for a long time, it has been on his mind to do something for the school and the students.
Speaking to News Today, he said, “I studied in the school from class 1 to 8. Despite being a government-run institution, the school lacks facilities. I am a native of Andhra Pradesh and my family settled in Ayyapakkam. It has been supporting the school for the past 30 years, so I thought it was high time I did my bit for my village and school.”
The money he donated will be used to buying schoolbags, uniform, shoes for 20 students who cannot afford it, for the next academic year in June.
Even on his off day, he spends time at the school, meeting the headmistress and students. Before joining the Kotturpuram station, Venkatesh was with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC). Venkatesh says he has more plans for the students and is in talks with the headmistress regarding this.
