Chennai: The Government Railway Police seized 4.5 kilograms of gold from four passengers who were waiting to board a train to Kerala at Chennai Central Station last night.

According to police sources, the men were identified as Lijo M J and Sanil from Thrissur and Prakasan and Sathyapalan from Palakkad.

They were waiting at the platform to board Alleppey Express at 9 pm and were planning to go to Thrissur with the gold.

A police source said, “Based on specific information, the Government Railway Police approached them and checked their luggage and found the gold. But the men did not have the documents for it, so they were detained. The bags were checked as security procedures have been beefed up due to the election.” The men were taken to Flower Baazar Police Station for further inquiries.
