Bengaluru:Ā Kapil Sibal,Ā senior Congress leader, yesterday flayed the Prime Minister Narendra ModiĀ and said the PM had diminished the status of his office with his statements about Pakistan and not speaking about India and its people.
Speaking at a press conference, Sibal said Modi’s repeated talk about the surgical strike should have been carried out on poverty and unemployment.
He said never before in his life had he heardĀ the kind of dialogue that Modi was indulging in. “Actually this prime minister only talks about Pakistan; he is not talking about Hindustan. He is the Prime Minister of Hindustan, our prime minister, but it looks like his vision is only directed at Pakistan,” he said.
“Speak about your people also. Talk about your own people – what you are doing for them. If he wanted to conduct a surgical strike, he should have carried out a surgical strike on poverty, on unemployment. Those are the surgical strikes that this nation needed…,” Sibal said.
“… what surgical strike? Surgical strike should be to empower our people,” he said, adding that corruption, unemployment and farm distress are the top three concerns for the people.
He further said thatĀ Modi government was ready to spend money on bullet trains but not on the poor and questioned his commitment to eliminate corruption in the country.
“When Rs 1.8 crore cash is caught in the northeast from the convoy of a chief minister, that’s not corruption. ‘Operation Lotus’ is not corruption? And ModiĀ speaks about eliminating corruption,” he said.
Sibal further mocked Modi with the term ‘chowkidar‘ and asked him why he had allowed Nirav Modi andĀ Mehul Choksi invovled the Punjab national bank scamĀ to get away.
