Bharathanatyam dancer Ramya Shankaran was awarded the title of ‘Natya Shree Mala’ by Malar Cultural Association at an event recently.
Ramya Shankaran, started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of four and came under the guidance of Guru Madhavi Chandra Sekar in Trichy. She also learned Mohini Attam and earned a diploma in the dance form.
According to a release, she received special training in Bharathanatyam from Director of Sri Sai Nrithyalaya – School of Bharatanatyam, Nandhini Suresh and rendered a one and half hour solo Bharatanatyam performance at Narada Gana Sabha, Mini Hall, Alwarpet, Chennai on 26 March.
After her performance she was conferred the title by the principal of Tamil Isai kalloori, Tamil Isai Sangam, Raja Annamalai Mandram, VV Meenakshi Jayakumar.
