With water scarcity becoming a prime concern in the neighbourhood, Chrompet residents want Municipal authorities to come up with possible solutions to tackle the issue.
It is said that waterbodies and borewells around Thiruneermalai and Chrompet, have already dried up.
Speaking about this to News Today, president of The Federation of Civic and Welfare Associations of Pallavaram, Santhanam, said, “I don’t know how the Municipality is going to manage the water crisis that we are to face in the coming days. The problem is with waterbodies present around the locality. Since the authorities have failed to protect the natural resources, we are now looking for alternatives. During former Chief Minister MGR’s regime, similar problems plagued the State. The leader had acted upon the same immediately and brought water through train. But now the issue is completely different. We don’t have enough facilities to cope up with the demand. Hence, it is high time appropriate action is taken.”
Adding to his opinion, a social activist from Hasthinapuram, Prakash, said, “This time is highly crucial for us. We have to save and make use of every single drop of water available. I suggest the authorities to make use of desalination plants and pump water from these to the city. Also, I would recommend to check with the quarries present around Tirusulam.”
