Chennai: The counselling dates for Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) will be announced later today, said State Higher Education Minister K P Anbazhagan after holding a meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The discussion comes after the move of Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) deciding to conduct the annual counselling for engineering. The high-level meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and Higher Education Secretary Mangat Ram Sharma.

In the wake of former TNEA Chairman M K Surappa’s resignation over untimely restructuring of the committee without seeking his opinion, Mangat Ram Sharma stated that DOTE would be conducting the counselling as against the past where TNEA had been doing the service since the last 22 years.

It is also stated that the appointment of DOTE Commissioner R Vivekanandan as co-chairman of TNEA was also one of the reasons that Surappa, tendered his resignation. While the committee was formed in November 2017, officials are of the opinion that there was no need to reconstitute the team as it is just been one year.

Earlier, Surappa, who is Anna University Vice-Chancellor, made it clear that the university would not be involved in the process and much recently, Mangat Ram Sharma announced that they have sought help from the university for conducting counselling online.
