Chennai: Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple, located near SIVET College in Gowrivakkam, a few kms from Selaiyur, has many specialities.

The temple was built in 2004 and according to a temple official, residents living in the surrounding areas came together and facilitated the construction of the temple.

“There was no temple in this place and people from the neighbourhood came together and in 2002, construction began and by 2004, the first temple consecration was performed,” says the official. The temple is currently managed by Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple Trust.

In the main sanctum, Panchamuga Anjaneyar is seen in standing posture. Opposite the shrine, on either sides of the entrance, Lord Chakarathazhvar, Yoga Narasimhar and Sri Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, are present.

To the left of the main sanctum there is a separate shrine for Lord Valli Devasena Sametha Shanmugar and to the right, Lord Varasiddhi Vinayakar is present in a separate sanctum.

Speaking about the shrine’s speciality, the temple priest says, “Of the five faces of Lord Panchamuga Anjaneyar, Lord Hanuman’s is the main face and the other four faces are that of Lord Varahar, Narasimhar, Hayagreevar and Garudar. The speciality here is all the five faces of the Lord can be seen from the front, which is a rarity.”

“Each of the Gods has His own speciality as it is believed that worshipping Lord Hanuman will help solve one’s problems and ailments. Lord Hayagreevar grants good knowledge to learn and especially
worshipping the Lord on Thursdays by giving elakkai malai will help enhance learning. Worshipping Garudazhvar will help one get rid of skin ailments and Varahar will help clear the hurdles for those whose marriage is getting delayed,” adds the priest.

In the temple, coconut tying ritual is practised by the devotees. Elaborating on it, the priest says, “During every amavasai or pournami, people tie a coconut after praying to the Lord making a wish which needs to be fulfilled. They must replace the coconut every amavasai or pournami and soon their wished will be granted by the Lord.”

Speaking about the special poojas and festivals in the temple, he says, “Every Saturday, at 10 am, Vishnu Sahasranamam parayanam takes place during which oonjal sevai will also happen for Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated like a Brahmotsavam for seven days. Apart from that special poojas are preformed during Varaha Jayanthi, Narasimha Jayanthi, and Garuda Panchami.”

During every Sankata Hara Chathurthi, homam is performed in the morning and in the evening, special abhishekam takes places for Lord Varasiddi Vinayakar. For Lord Muruga, special poojas are performed during Sashti, Visakam and Krithigai, added the priest.

The temple is open every day from 7.30 am to 11 am and 4.30 pm to 8 pm.
