Nagapattinam: Four people were arrested for allegedly beating up a Muslim man after he uploaded a picture of himself having beef soup yesterday.
The man identified as Mohammed Faisan (24) hailed from Poravachery. Yesterday he posted a picture of him eating a beef soup on Facebook and had described its taste.
Objecting to the post a group went to his house and picked up fight. Faisan was injured during the quarrel and he was admitted to the government hospital for treatment.
Based on the orders of District Superintendent of Police T K Rajasekaran Dinesh Kumar (28), Agathian (29), Ganeshkumar (27) and Mohankumar (28) were arrested yesterday. Cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder were registered against the four.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) State unit condemned the incident, and said the Tamilnadu government and police should nip such episodes in the bud.
