Chennai: In connection to the alleged suicide of a 24-year-old man in a police custody in Cuddalore, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel has issued a notice to Tamilnadu government yesterday.
According to a media report, the State Director General of Police J K Tripathy was issued the report and was asked to submit a detailed report within six weeks. “The Commission has issued a notice to TN DGP calling for a detailed report in the matter including Inquest Report, Post-mortem Examination Report and report of the Magisterial Enquiry conducted in the matter, within 6 weeks,” read the panel statement in a PTI report.
Meanwhile, the NHRC issued a statement saying that negligence on part of the police personnel led to the death of the accused. This amounted to violation of his human rights, said the statement.
The deceased was arrested on charges of cheating. He reportedly ended his life by hanging from the window of the toilet while in police custody on Thursday morning.
