Thiruvananthapuram: A student of University college was stabbed and three others were injured when violence erupted at the campus yesterday.
According to a media report, the victim identified as Akhil was a third year Political Science student. He was apparently attacked for singing a song that angered some Students Federation of India members. The victim was stabbed on the chest and he was rushed to the Trivandrum medical college hospital. Akhil underwent surgery due to internal bleeding, but his condition was stable, said the report.
Following the incident, college students protested in front of the college gate and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Six students have been booked and a case against 20 unidentified students has been registered by the police.
Reacting to the incident, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala slammed the students wing of the CPI(M) and said the latest attack on the student showed the terror face of SFI. BJP state President P S Sreedharan Pillai also attacked the ruling CPI(M), led by Pinarayi Vijayan, and its student organisation and said no action has taken against such attacks, despite complaints by students.
Meanwhile, the Left government has ordered a report from the Education Department.
