Chennai: With more water being released from the Karnataka dams, the water level in Mettur dam in Tamilnadu has risen to 50 ft.
According to reports, after two months, water in the dam has been rising steadily and touched 50 ft this morning owing to good rain in the catchment areas of Karnataka.
The Kabini and Krishna Raja Sagar dams in the upper riparian State have been fast filling up, leading to Cauvery water being released to Tamilnadu.
Karnataka has let in 11,243 cusecs water into the Cauvery river and Tamilnadu has been receiving 10,000 cusecs of water, according to reports this morning.
Water from Mettur dam is being released only for drinking water purpose in Tamilnadu and so, the water level is rising by 1 foot per day. It touched 50 ft this morning.
Karnataka has been refusing to allow Cauvery water for Tamilnadu stating that it was in the grip of severe drought.
But with the rain lashing the catchment areas of Karnataka and its dams overflowing, it has been releasing water into the Cauvery.
