Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami receiving a petition during the second day of grievances meeting in Salem today.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said the government would make ways to grant pension to destitutes and aged citizens.

“Pension would be given to five lakh aged people. For the ones with requisite papers, patta will be given for their house-site and we will implement schemes to double the income of farmers,” he announced.

He distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 6.84 crore to 1,250 people and stated that he would take measures to double the income of farmers.

Waters from Papanasam, Servalar and Manimutharu dams will be released from tomorrow (21 August) to 9 September he announced at the second day of grievance redressal camp at Salem.

He also added that the deserving petitions will be solved within a stipulated time and noted that, “Water is important to farmers like how life is important for a human body. Farmers should preserve water bodies like how eyelashes protect the eyes.”

Palaniswami launched the Chief Minister special grievance redressal scheme in Salem yesterday. It is said on the first day, 4,062 petitions were received out of which 53 problems were solved on the same day.

Under the programme, to be implemented across the State, teams of officials from the departments of Revenue, Rural Development, Municipal Administration, etc., would visit all villages and the wards in urban areas on a specified date and receive petitions from the people. The details of these petitions would be entered into computers and forwarded to departments within a week. Within a month’s time, the grievance would be redressed. The launch of the scheme follows Palaniswami’s announcement made in the State Assembly, an official release said.

“Under the scheme, based on orders by District Collectors, a panel comprising officials from various departments would collect petitions from people across the State. These will be stored in a computer, forwarded to respective departments in a week and issues will be resolved in a month,” the release said.

Also, Ministers would personally receive petitions Statewide to help address issues like laying of new roads, installation of streetlights and water supply, among others. Functions would be held across the State in which they would present welfare schemes to beneficiaries.

Public grievance day meetings are now being held every Monday in all districts in the Collector’s office, and camps are also being conducted every Friday at the taluk-level by tahsildars.
