Chennai: Residents of the neighbourhood want a parking lot near Chrompet Railway Station, as commuters here have no proper facility to park their two-wheelers and cycles.
According to sources, earlier, there used to be a parking lot, parallel to the railway track, adjacent to Radha Nagar, owned and maintained by a private party. But it was shut down a few years ago. Now, people are forced to park their vehicles along the station’s wall, in a narrow road, where the act is prohibited by Chitlapakkam police.
While the public should not violate the rules and regulations framed by the government, it is the administration’s responsibility to ensure that people are equipped with enough alternatives for their needs, feel many.
V Balasubramanian, a resident of Radha Nagar questions, “The police department has written warnings on the walls of the Chrompet railway station against parking near the same, but where else can we do it?”
Sastha Sundaram, a resident of Srinivasapuram, says, “I travel to work by train everyday and to reach the railway station, I prefer to drive by myself. But since, there is no parking lot, I have no other go, but, to depend on my family members to drop me here.”
