Actor Vikram and Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital chairman Prof Amar Agarwal at the inauguration of two new hospitals in Chennai Wednesday.

Chennai: Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital has opened a state-of-the-art eyecare hospital at Kodambakkam and Tiruvottiyur Wednesday.

Actor Vikram, who was the chief guest on the occasion supported the noble cause of eye donation and encouraged his fans to pledge their eyes.

“The eyes are body’s most highly developed sensory organs. But many people lose their opportunity to see this beautiful world, because they are blind. However, it is possible to bring back their sight by donating our eyes after death. In this national eye donation fortnight, I hope such campaign drive will encourage and inspire others, especially my fans, to pledge their eyes as well which will help in creating a positive change in someone’s life,” the actor said.

Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital chairman Prof Amar Agarwal said, “The newly opened facilities will provide high quality eye-care services to patients. According to a recent study, India is the home for 20 per cent of world’s visually impaired. Around 80 per cent of visual impairment in India was either preventable or curable. Preventable blindness could be eradicated from our country, if people come forward to pledge their eyes.”

To mark the inaugural of Kodambakkam and Tiruvottiyur facilities, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital has announced that eye care surgeries will be performed completely free of cost to 100 persons below poverty line.

Dr Agarwal Eye Hospital, Kodambakkam head (clinical services) Dr Baskaran and Dr Dhivya Pratheepa of Tiruvottiyur branch participated.

The Kodambakkam facility is spread across 4,775 Sq ft, and is located at No 33, Dr Ambedkar Road near Grace Super Market. The Thiruvottiyur facility is spread across 2,576 sq ft and is located at No 49/60, South Mada Street, TH Road, near MSM Theatre.
