Chennai: Sangam Street at Arumugam Nagar in Menambedu has been a cause for concern to residents for some time now. The road connects the locality with Pudur Main Road and one of significance.
However, according to residents, the road is very narrow at many places, leading to problems. Saravanakumar, from the locality, said, “The stretch is wide enough only for one vehicle to cross. Accidents happen aplenty here. Everyday we see a motorist, be it a biker, or an autorickshaw driver accidentally ride their vehicle into the ditch.”
Residents said the route is commonly used by school vans and when they do, people cannot even walk freely due to lack of width.
The fact that garbage is strewn all over the place does not help matters, they say. “We have complained many times to authorities but no action has been made yet,” they added.
Located opposite to the Thulukathamman temple in Menambedu, the street does not even have a garbage bin. “Officials need to place a garbage bin at the spot. Due to the road being in such a pathetic state, at least if other spots are clean, people will be able to walk freely. So, garbage bin is a necessity,” said Saravanakumar.
Residents want officials to take action at once before a major mishap happens there. “No official will be held responsible if an unfortunate incident happens. We just hope they take action,” stated residents.
