Roads in various parts of the Mugappair have been damaged owing to the recent rains and digging by agencies. Residents and motorists have been complaining to civic officials regarding the difficulties faced by them. Places like Thirumullaivoyal, Oragadam and Muggapair have been damaged in the past few weeks.
“Rain has worsened the situation. Roads are in a bad shape,” said Thanikachalam, a resident of Mugappair. Some stretches were relaid a few years ago and they have developed pot-holes, he added.
Even the cement concrete roads have not been spared. They are also been damaged. For example, the road leading to the Mugappair West Bus Stand has been damaged and steel rods have been exposed, causing injuries to people, says Janakiraman, am activist.
“A few spots are prone to accidents. The onset of the northeast monsoon may cause more damage,” he adds. “Driving through battered roads is a Herculean task. When it rains, water stagnates and we don’t know where the potholes are. Safety is our concern,” says David, a motorist.
A few busy roads here lack speed-breakers. “When the civic staff relay the stretches, they should also put these speed-bumps at regular intervals. Patchwork has also not been done for one or two years in many roads,” people say.
With monsoon approaching, officials should act fast, request residents.
