Chennai: Two patients with history of travel to China were admitted to the isolation wards at Government Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai and Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital after they showed symptoms of coronavirus.

Doctors are closely monitoring their condition. Besides, more than 300 people who arrived from China and neighbouring countries were advised to remain in mandatory home quarantine for 28 days.

Health Minister C Vijayabaskar has said no one in Tamilnadu has been confirmed with coronavirus so far.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the novel coronavirus outbreak in China has risen to 259 with total confirmed cases surging to 11,791 amid stepped up efforts by a number of countries to evacuate their nationals from Hubei province, officials said today.

Chinese health authorities have announced that the death toll has risen to 259 with total confirmed cases increasing to 11,791, the biggest increase since China began reporting the spread of the virulent virus on 21 January.
